The Windsor of Gainesville Assisted Living and Memory Care annual Toys for Tots got an unexpected windfall when two young local lemonade entrepreneurs offered to donate all their proceeds to the charity. Windsor of Gainesville, a Legend Senior Living residence, held their 3rd Annual Toys for Tots collection event from December 6 through December 15.
“It was an extraordinarily good year, with hundreds of donated toys,” said Ruth Brunner, Sales Director at The Windsor. “But thanks to our young friends Wyatt and Caroline, it became absolutely magical.”
Donors brought their unwrapped, new toy donations to the Windsor community, as usual. But this year, two local children, Wyatt, 9, and his sister Caroline, 7, expressed their desire to their father, “Daddy, can we use our money to buy presents for the Toys for Tots program?” The two went to work selling lemonade in their neighborhood as well as setting up their lemonade stand at football tailgate events. When they turned their take into Toys for Tots, they had nearly three dozen brand new toys to add to the Windsor table.
“It was just a stunning and heartwarming gesture on the part of the children,” said Brunner. “And we thought they should be recognized for the generosity of their effort. They’re an inspiration to all of us.”
In total, the Windsor of Gainesville’s Toys for Tots attracted dozens of donors who gave hundreds of toys that will be given to Gainesville’s children in need.
