Legend Senior Living® has announced the promotion of Misty Brake to Corporate Sales Specialist. Brake has been with the organization since 2017 as Director of Sales and Marketing for Park West Plaza in Wichita.

With 15 years of experience in the industry, Brake brings a special love for senior care to her new position. “I feel I was groomed at an early age for this position and this industry in general,” she said. “Prior to being employed in the industry, I volunteered in senior centers and nursing homes.”

Two circumstances led Brake to choose a career in senior care. Her mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when Misty was eight. She handled the caregiving when her parents divorced. The other was spending a lot of quality time with her great grandparents.

“My great grandparents influenced my life so much,” she explained. “They never met a stranger and never passed by someone in need. Those qualities resonated in my family and are a foundation of who I am.”

Derrek Schartz, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said Brake has had an impressive career in senior living. “She has many years of experience of successfully selling to seniors in all lines of care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing,’ he explained. “And she has the ability to quickly generate interest and close new business.”

Brake began her career in senior care – her “mission field,” she calls it – in Life Enrichment, a role she said taught her a lot about how the industry operates. She experienced what people feel when making a move to assisted living, as well as what they feel they gain. “Most importantly, I learned that it isn’t the quantity of life but the quality of life that matters,” Brake said. “I had the opportunity to interview so many residents through the years. That gave me a bigger passion for understanding aging and how each generation looks at aging.”

As the new Corporate Sales Specialist, her responsibilities include developing sales strategy for individual communities, working with onboarding and mentoring, coaching and training new hires, and improving communication and sales processes.

When Brake joined Legend Senior Living in 2017, she said she felt its philosophy and values aligned with her own. “I won’t work for a company if I don’t have the same buy-in to what the bigger picture is. It’s good to be with a company where you are valued for your hard work and dedication.”
