Legend Senior Living and Rehab1 Partner To Bring Professional Outpatient Therapy for Silver Creek Residents

April 24th, 2023 | Press Releases

Legend Senior Living® has announced that the company will partner with Rehab1 to provide physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) to residents of the new Legend at Silver Creek Personal Care and Memory Care residence in Mechanicsburg. Legend Senior Living, a family-operated senior living provider with headquarters in Wichita, KS, broke ground on the Silver Creek residence last year with a projected opening of summer 2023. Legend owns and operates 48 Legend and Windsor residences in six states. Rehab1, serving senior communities in southeast Pennsylvania, provides comprehensive outpatient therapy, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, and other specialized assessments and services for residents of Personal Care and Memory Care (dementia-related conditions).

"We think we've found a great partner in Rehab1 for our growing mission in Pennsylvania," said Chris Mahen, Legend's COO. "We seek to bring the best care in senior living, tailored to each resident. Rehab1 provides the outpatient therapy dimension in such an expert, comprehensive way into the Silver Creek building. The great advantage is that each resident will get the specific therapy they need on-site."

The Silver Creek residence will comprise 75 apartments for Personal Care residents and 20 for Memory Care. Legend Senior Living has a long history with senior living housing options, having developed its first Personal Care (known as Assisted Living outside PA) residences nearly three decades ago with a mission to care for the whole person, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Legend emphasizes individual care and independence. Its communities are "purposefully designed" to assist in navigation, active living, and socialization and provide a continuum of care. With its incorporation of innovative therapies and programs, Legend Memory Care is recognized as some of the most advanced in the industry.

"The mission of Rehab1 is perfectly aligned with Legend's," said Brian Hall, Rehab1 President, who started the company 17 years ago. "We're focused on rehabilitative therapies for seniors, especially for senior living communities, and nothing else. Our proactive approach dovetails with Legend's, relying on weekly conversations with the nursing staff on site. We provide the specialized equipment, and the residents' physicians prescribe the therapy."

Medicare Part B covers the out-of-pocket expense for the therapy. The company employs 67 team members and partners with 13 senior living communities for solutions where residents can easily travel to sessions. Hall said therapy to build strength and general wellness reduces falls and injuries, frequently necessitating PT. Rehab1 also specializes in brain health and speech therapy, which has applications in Memory Care alongside Legend's therapy and programming.

"These are exciting times for seniors who see their communities offer more specialized and comprehensive services," added Mahen. "Our emphasis at Legend is providing independence and enabling a purposeful life. The more we partner with top providers like Rehab1, the better for our residents."

Legend at Silver Creek will be the company's sixth residence operating in Pennsylvania, with more in development.
