Deficiency-Free Survey at Legend at Council Road Extends Streak for Legend Senior Living Communities in Oklahoma
September 4th, 2019 | Press Releases
Legend at Council Road has achieved a deficiency-free survey from the Oklahoma Department of Health (ODH). This is the second year in a row it has achieved the rating.
Donna Gail Robison, Regional Health Care Director for Oklahoma, said, “All Legend Senior Living residences strive to operate survey ready every day,” she explained. “This commitment by Legend in turn provides the highest quality of care to the residents we serve.”
Each senior living residence in the state must pass an unannounced, annual re-licensure survey by the ODH. The survey process measures how well a residence is doing from a quality and compliance standpoint and is conducted by a survey team from the ODH.
“At Legend, we operate as ‘always ready’ for a state inspection at any time, but little things can be overlooked,” said Aaron Mosley, Residence Director. To obtain a zero deficiency takes a lot of hard work and oversight every day of the year. Everything from water temperatures to doctor orders are meticulously inspected in our own internal quality measures.”
The survey process looks at four separate criteria: administrative, clinical, kitchen and dining, and physical plant. The survey measures residence rights compliance, compliance with hiring processes, background checks – including criminal history and citizenship – and training (abuse, neglect misappropriation of funds). The inspection includes sanitation, dining and kitchen facilities, clinical care negotiated service agreements, cleanliness of living quarters, delivery of care, and physical asset management to assure a homelike and safe environment.
Mosley explained that preparing for the inspection is a process for the associates at Council Road every day. “From the maintenance director having the residence mechanically sound, to dietary services following all food handling and serving regulations, to the nursing department following every doctor’s order, everyone makes sure every state regulation is being followed,” he said.
“The biggest and most important step is hiring associates who truly care about the job they do,” he went on. “They aren’t just going through the motions here; we care about every one of the residents living in our community. Hiring caring staff and constant education is the key to success.
“Every associate here is committed to providing the best care and living experience they can. As a director, I surround myself with staff that have a caring and giving heart,” Mosley said. “Job duties can be taught, but a heart filled with compassion and the commitment to help cannot be taught or trained.”
Legend at Council Road is owned and operated by Legend Senior Living, which is a privately held senior housing and services company based in Wichita, Kansas. The company is a family-owned business with a proven track record of serving seniors for nearly 30 years.
