Legend Senior Living® announced today that it will begin offering COVID-19 testing at its senior living communities. The company is among the nation's first multi-site senior living companies to offer in-house testing for residents. In-house testing will significantly reduce wait time results, in turn reducing the risk of Covid-19 infection in Legend communities.
Legend to date has had no cases of COVID-19 in its communities, said Chris Mahen, Chief Operating Officer.
The company is working with PLS Scientific Laboratories and its partner Assurance Scientific Laboratories to provide its FDA-approved testing kits to all Legend communities. Legend Senior Living owns and operates over 40 independent living, assisted living/personal care and memory care residences in Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Texas
“Residents well-being is our greatest mission and why we exist as a company. Offering tests to our residents as soon as possible has been a priority with us since the outbreak,” Mahen said. “This was a tremendous effort on the part of our team and our collaboration with PLS Scientific that allowed us to rapidly launch our own internal testing.”
“We now have test kits on-site in each community and can test a resident if the physician has ordered the test due to symptoms. They'll then avoid the high risk and spotty availability of testing at off-site hospitals while allowing our community teams to provide more responsive care,” Mahen added.
PLS Scientific Laboratories is one of only 26 commercial labs in the United States approved by the FDA for COVID-19 (Coronavirus) testing.
