September 30th, 2021 | Company News
The new Windsor Pointe of Jacksonville, scheduled for opening October 2021, has named Melanie Thompson as Life Enrichment Coordinator. Thompson will be responsible for organizing, planning and coordinating more than 200 activities and events a month at the Independent Living residence. Windsor Pointe is the eleventh Florida senior living residence owned and operated by Legend Senior Living®. The Wichita, KS-based company also has locations in Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas and Pennsylvania.
“Melanie exemplifies the Legend Senior Living mission, to provide for the independence, dignity and purposeful life of the residents,” said Debi Thomas, Legend Senior Living Vice President of Business Development, who made the annoucement. “Having the ideal Life Enrichment Coordinator puts the final piece in place for the opening of our flagship Florida residence. Life Enrichment is essential to socialization, active lifestyle and the mental and physical health of the seniors who trust Windsor as a premier independent living provider.”
Thompson comes from Birmingham, Alabama. She is a graduate of the University of North Alabama with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications and a Minor in English and Theater. Her academic career continued well beyond her own scholastic achievement, including a tenured position as Professor of Hospitality Management at Florida State College Jacksonville. Her Life Enrichment leadership draws on her experience in hospitality as Membership and Social Director at Deerwood Country Club and World Golf Village’s King & Bear and Slammer & Squire Country Clubs.
“My whole career, in fact, my whole focus in life beyond my own family is my desire to serve and my ability to understand the wants and needs of people I serve,” said Thompson. “This is the foundation of my education, and in practicing the profession I’ve developed a keen empathy for people. I look forward to meeting the residents and developing creative programs to keep them active and engaged. Windsor Pointe is the most exciting thing happening in senior living.”
Windsor Pointe Life Enrichment features a variety of activities, both inside the residence and out, with dedicated spaces for the arts, hobbies, live entertainment, physical wellness and personal development. Educational, spiritual, and cultural programs will stimulate mental fitness. There is also plenty of opportunities for volunteerism and outings for residents to enjoy Jacksonville culture and nature. Group activities are integral to the social life, with frequent organized trips making the most of the Jacksonville’s attractions nearby.
