Moved Dad into Memory Care and what a difference it has made. He is so active with the associates there, goes out on field trips, and is generally happy. They really attend to his needs and make it a low-stress world for him. Thank you so much, River Oaks, for being what our dad needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you determine if someone is ready for memory care?
It may be the right step when home no longer feels safe or daily routines have become too hard to manage. Signs can include wandering, confusion, or challenges keeping up with meals and medications.
What specialized services are available for residents with dementia or Alzheimer’s?
River Oaks provides specialized Memory Care centered on each resident’s unique abilities, preferences, and life story. One of the ways we do this is through Parallel Programming, where residents gather together in a shared setting while participating in activities thoughtfully adapted to their individual cognitive and physical abilities. Along with personalized care plans, medication management, chef-prepared meals, and associates with ongoing dementia education, this approach helps create meaningful days that support well-being and quality of life.
What activities or therapies are used to support memory and cognitive health?
Every activity is thoughtfully adapted to each resident’s abilities and interests. Residents enjoy painting, gardening, puzzles, Expressions Bingo, Giggle Bowling, the Bear Roll Race, and other sensory and therapeutic experiences designed to encourage social interaction, movement, creativity, and cognitive engagement. These programs are complemented by personalized routines, music, reminiscence activities, and meaningful one-on-one interactions.
Will families stay involved?
Yes. Families are an important part of our approach. We offer regular updates, support groups, and plenty of ways to stay connected.
How much does Memory Care cost and what is included in that price?
The cost of Memory Care at River Oaks depends on the apartment selected and each resident’s personalized care needs. One monthly fee typically includes a private apartment, chef-prepared meals, housekeeping, laundry, utilities, personalized care, medication management, licensed nursing oversight, enriching therapeutic activities, and access to specially trained associates available around the clock.
Do Memory Care associates have any specialized certifications or training?
Yes. Legend is committed to providing advanced dementia education for our Memory Care teams. We require all Memory Care associates to go through the Certified Dementia Practitioner® (CDP®) training through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. Each Legend Memory Care community has multiple certified associates who have completed specialized training in person-centered dementia care, communication, behavior support, safety practices, and daily care strategies.
What is a Certified Dementia Practitioner® (CDP®)?
A Certified Dementia Practitioner® is a professional who has completed formal dementia care training and demonstrated knowledge of person-centered care practices. The certification equips caregivers with advanced skills to better support individuals living with dementia through effective communication, understanding behavioral changes, and providing meaningful daily care. It reflects a commitment to ongoing education and delivering a higher standard of dementia care.
