Legend of Lancaster recently donated more than $1,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association. The retirement residence held an Apple Festival on Saturday, Oct. 27, at its location in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
“Donating to Alzheimer's Association is a natural thing for us. Caring for residents with cognitive impairments is a large part of what we do,” said Kevin Sheidy, Director of Sales. Legend® offers memory care as part of its services, which includes caring for residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Legend of Lancaster generated proceeds by selling apple dumplings, chocolate covered and caramel apples, which the residents made, and lunch. In addition, about 30 local businesses donated items for a silent auction.
In addition to many of the residents, more than 125 people from the surrounding area came to the event. “This is the first year for the festival,” Sheidy said, “and we’re very happy with how it turned out. Legend residents had a great time and we had fantastic support from the Lancaster community.”
The residents participated in the Apple Festival as part of the focus on life enrichment that Legend offers. This is just one of several programs the residential residence offers to keep residents engaged and active in the local residence and to give back.
“We’re part of the Lancaster community, and it’s a great opportunity to see our friends and neighbors,” said Sheidy.
