Frequently Asked Questions
How do you determine if someone is ready for memory care?
It may be the right step when home no longer feels safe or daily routines have become too hard to manage. Signs can include wandering, confusion, or challenges keeping up with meals and medications.
What specialized services are available for residents with dementia or Alzheimer’s?
Our associates help with personal care, medication, meals, and routines, while encouraging independence whenever possible. Licensed nurses are also here for added support.
What activities are available for Memory Care residents?
Life in Memory Care focuses on purposeful engagement tailored to each resident’s abilities and interests. Residents participate in painting, crafts, cookie decorating, bowling, gardening, themed celebrations, and personalized programs designed to encourage confidence and connection. They also enjoy carefully planned outings, including visits to Mother Road Market for mini golf and memorable trips along historic Route 66, such as the Blue Whale of Catoosa, where familiar sights often inspire conversation and reminiscence.
Will families stay involved?
Absolutely. Families are encouraged to remain active participants in their loved one’s life through visits, celebrations, and community events. Residents regularly enjoy holiday parties, seasonal celebrations, creative activities, and outings that families can often attend, helping create meaningful shared experiences and lasting memories.
How much does Memory Care cost and what is included in that price?
The cost of memory care varies depending on the type of apartment you choose and the level of support needed. At The Stonehaven, one monthly rate covers a private living space, daily meals, housekeeping, and personalized care. That includes help with bathing, dressing, and medications, plus access to enriching activities, monitored gathering spaces, and caring associates available day and night. Families also receive regular updates and opportunities to stay involved.
Do Memory Care associates have any specialized certifications or training?
Yes. Legend is committed to providing advanced dementia education for our Memory Care teams. We require all Memory Care associates to go through the Certified Dementia Practitioner® (CDP®) training through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. Each Legend Memory Care community has multiple certified associates who have completed specialized training in person-centered dementia care, communication, behavior support, safety practices, and daily care strategies.
How does Memory Care encourage social connection?
Residents enjoy small-group and one-on-one activities that encourage conversation, creativity, and friendship. Whether participating in painting projects, celebrating holidays together, or enjoying live music and entertainment, each day is designed to promote meaningful engagement while respecting every resident’s unique abilities.
How are activities adapted for different stages of dementia?
The Stonehaven uses individualized programming that matches activities to each resident’s abilities, interests, and preferences. Whether someone enjoys creating art, gardening, baking, or participating in small-group outings, caregivers provide the right level of support so every resident can experience success and remain engaged.
What makes Memory Care at The Stonehaven unique?
Memory Care at The Stonehaven combines personalized support with meaningful daily experiences in a thoughtfully designed, monitored environment. Through individualized programming, familiar routines, creative activities, music, outings, and compassionate caregivers, residents are encouraged to maintain their abilities, build connections, and experience purpose every day while families gain confidence knowing their loved one is receiving specialized dementia care.
What is a Certified Dementia Practitioner® (CDP®)?
A Certified Dementia Practitioner® is a professional who has completed formal dementia care training and demonstrated knowledge of person-centered care practices. The certification equips caregivers with advanced skills to better support individuals living with dementia through effective communication, understanding behavioral changes, and providing meaningful daily care. It reflects a commitment to ongoing education and delivering a higher standard of dementia care.
