Angelica Kowalski-Lee, LPN, at Windsor Reflections, a Memory Care residence, has been named Caregiver of the Year 2020 by the Florida Senior Living Association (FSLA). The annual award recognizes an outstanding senior living caregiver of an FSLA member community.

“We nominated Angie for Caregiver of the Year because she epitomizes what Windsor, the residents and their families look for in a nurse,” said Dennis Knapp, Residence Director at Windsor Reflections. “She takes the initiative in caring for residents with whatever they need. You can tell this is an actual calling for her. We’re all, staff and residents alike, genuinely happy when she walks into the building.”

“I felt Angie was a natural nomination for Caregiver of the Year because she is such a loving, caring nurse and a role model for the staff,” said Eva Mills, Healthcare Director at Windsor Reflections. “She is so respected by our staff and well-loved by our residents.”

The FSLA chooses the Caregiver of the Year from among nominees by directors at member residences all over Florida. The nominee must be a direct caregiver who demonstrates extraordinary dedication, compassion, treats the residents with dignity and respect, and goes beyond expected care so that they are considered an extension of the resident’s family.  The FSLA, headquartered in Tallahassee (FL) is a state partner of Argentum, the leading national association of senior living residences in the U.S.

Gwen Thibault, Legend Divisional Vice President of Operations – Florida/Texas/Pennsylvania, emphasized the particular needs of memory care residents to amplify the meaning of the award.

“The FSLA guidelines require that a nominee exemplify the phrase “It takes a special kind of person …’” said Thibault. “This could be part of the job description for all of our Windsor caregivers. If you needed a model for this kind of compassionate professionalism, we could just say ‘Watch Angie.’”
