Legend Senior Living® has announced the hiring of Elaina Couming as Regional Healthcare Director for Florida. With more than 30 years of healthcare experience, including the last five in senior care, she brings a wealth of knowledge to the company.

Couming earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts. She served as second lieutenant and nurse in the U.S. Army, including during Desert Storm. After leaving the military, she chose to enter the then new sub-acute/skilled nursing field, first as a unit manager, then transitioning into a clinical liaison role. She worked for nine years in an extended care facility in Massachusetts.

“I found myself in need of a change and stepped into the assisted living world for the first time, taking a position as a resident care director in a small assisted living community,” she said. “Assisted living was new to me; I was learning every day and I loved going to work. I tell people often I’ve worked harder in this role than in any other in my career, and I’ve found more job satisfaction in it!”

After relocating to Florida, she worked as health and wellness director for a residence on the gulf coast. “Not exactly where I intended to settle, but I knew it was the right place for me at the time,” she said. Since then, she's been the resident care director for large communities, mentoring new associates, turning troubled communities, providing RN oversight, and teaching the state-required dementia training for all new associates in the Orlando area.

She has continued learning and just recently completed the Core Competency Exam. “I was looking for an opportunity to grow in my role after having been a successful HCD and Legend answered that call for me,” she said.

In her brief time with Legend Senior Living, she’s impressed each day by the energy and professionalism in the organization. “The team makes me feel welcome, appreciated, and ready to support me in every way.” Her first priorities in her new role are to begin relationships in the communities, identify areas of need within the clinical department, and provide education for several new Health Care Directors within the communities.

“I’ve always had high ideals for myself, and am proud to uphold Legend’s values, as they very much align with my personal beliefs,” Couming said. “The standards are truly a cut above what I’ve experienced in the assisted living industry. I’m honored and humbled to have been welcomed and be a part of it.”
