Rally at The Regent Car Show Set for September 20

The 10th Annual Rally at The Regent car show is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 20. The event takes place 5-8 p.m. at 2050 North Webb Road. This is a family fun event, featuring food and more than 100 show cars.

Kylie Jefferis, Life Enrichment Coordinator at The Regent, has coordinated The Rally for five of the 10 years the event has taken place, and has seen it grow more popular every year. “The largest turnout has been 700 people,” she said. “And that’s what we’re hoping for this year.”

Last year, The Rally had 113 cars entered. There are eight classes; professional judges determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, and then an overall Best of Show. “We have cars that date back to the early 1900s,” Jefferis said. “So far this year, we have a 1912 Maxwell registered. The newest is a 2018; we currently do not have a 2019 car registered, but I would not be surprised if we get one.”

The Rally at the Regent is open to anyone who wants to show their automobile. Jefferis has built a contact list over the years, several of whom are local car clubs. But most of them are a random group of contacts that she keeps in touch with throughout the year. There is no charge for entering the car show. Anyone who would like to enter can reserve a spot by emailing kylie@legendseniorliving.com or calling 316-631-3900. Entries will be accepted until the parking lot is full. The first 130 cars entered get a free dash plaque.

The residents at The Regent look forward to it all year, Jefferis said. “It brings back memories for them. They even like to tell stories referencing cars in the lot – about their first purchases and beyond. Several have family attend the car show, eat with their loved ones, and tour the lot while reminiscing.”

The Regent’s Gold Leaf chefs get to show off their barbecue skills with their pulled pork sandwiches. Soda and water will also be provided free of charge. The DJ will keep the energy going with a mix of classic tunes, and KEYN will be broadcasting remotely throughout the event.

Because the parking lot will be full of show cars, guests must park at the Eastminster Church directly to the south of The Regent. Two golf carts will shuttle guests to and from the event.
