Legend Senior Living Creates Weekend-Long Mother's Day Celebration

May 8th, 2020 | Press Releases

This year, Legend Senior Living and its 40-plus residences in six states want to make the Mother’s Day holiday extra special by celebrating all weekend long – Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10.

“I think we can easily assume that, in the more than one hundred years since the first celebration of modern Mother’s Day, this one will be unique for many reasons. Legend associates, residents and families intend to make it one to remember for all of the best reasons with a very special weekend dedicated to mothers who have made Legend residences their homes,” said Chris Mahen, Legend COO, in making the announcement. Mahen cites the precautionary protocols that have kept families from visiting each other, the missed hugs and birthday and anniversary celebrations that have been put on hold for the duration of stay-at-home conditions as impetus for the extended holiday.

“Our first priority is always the health of the residents,” Mahen pointed out. “Thanks to the patient, disciplined sacrifice of the residents and their families for the good of their communities, they deserve an extra-special weekend of recognition and celebration.”

All Legend residences have been buzzing all week with preparation for the weekend. Dining, of course, always the center of the tradition, will be enhanced by the imaginations of the Legend Executive Chefs, who have designed special Mother’s Day Dinners, desserts and treats. Families of residents have been sending fun and historic photos and videos of their mothers or grandmothers. These are being turned into residence video montages by the Legend marketing teams or used to decorate the residences. Legend residences will be taking flower arrangements delivered by families and refrigerating them to observe quarantine procedure and keep them fresh for the weekend. Each residence will distribute gifts of roses to female residents. Facetime and Skype calls will have a special place in a weekend relying heavily on digital communication. Streaming real-time video calls with loved ones will be especially important for those residents who may not have smart phones or devices. Some residences are even planning Mother’s Day parades.

“Good things come out of challenging times,” Mahen emphasized. “Many residents who have not taken advantage of digital communication will be assisted by our associates and introduced to a convenient medium for higher quality, more frequent virtual visits from loved ones. They’ll discover the advantage of online services to enrich their lives.”

Life Enrichment (LE) activities, the cultural, educational and social events which populate the residence calendars, have changed shape to observe group restrictions, but will continue unabated with games and creative activities that observe social distancing, thanks to the virtually unlimited innovations of Legend Life Enrichment Coordinators and their staffs.

“Life Enrichment, always central to residence culture, has taken on a heightened significance while residents stay at home,” said Mahen. Life Enrichment is key to replacing isolation with engagement and has proven itself a vital therapy for depression and loneliness. “We’ll make it even more special this weekend, and I predict it will have an even greater significance in daily life as a result.”
