The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) has announced the two winners of the ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase, an art competition celebrating the arts in senior living communities. Receiving 572 likes on Facebook, Betty Finstad's Southwestern Serenity was declared the fan favorite winner, and Robert Wilson's, Legend at Rivendell resident, Adorable Child Exploring the Beach was chosen as the ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase Grand Prize winner by a distinguished panel of judges.

The expert panel of judges, assembled through ALFA's partnership with the American Art Therapy Association, met at ALFA offices to view the finalist works of art and choose the grand prize winner. Mr. Wilson's piece was chosen for his representation of the theme: carpe diem, meaning seize the day, and the piece's overall artistic merit.

The panel of judges included:

Barbara Keyes, National Gallery of Art
Donna Kirk, National Gallery of Art
Matthew Grimes, Corcoran Gallery of Art
Donna Fowler, Alexandria Arts Commission
Mary Mitchell, Mary Mitchell Designs
Rose O'Donnell, Director, The Art League Gallery
Marian Van Landingham, Torpedo Factory Art Center
Susan Corrigan, American Art Therapy Association

"It was an honor to host such a distinguished group of art experts," said ALFA President & CEO Richard P. Grimes. "The fact that such an impressive group of individuals took part in the judging is a testament to the talent senior living residents possess and continue to demonstrate in the life-enriching environments present in senior living residences across the country."

ALFA will sponsor painting events for Robert Wilson's and Betty Finstad's senior living residences to celebrate their achievements and the residence spirit of senior living. Both winners, as well as the 29 other finalists, will be showcased at COMMUNITY 2012, the ALFA Conference and Expo.
