Legend Senior Living™ continues making a big splash with PARO, a biofeedback therapeutic robotic seal, designed to simulate calm and nurturing actions in residents that may be depressed or suffering anxiety, especially for those with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. This innovative therapy technique targeted for memory care residents and implemented by Dr. Sandra Petersen, who oversees the program for Legend Senior Living™, was recently launched at Legend™ at Capital Ridge in Topeka. Evie is the first PARO (personal robot) of her kind in Kansas and is already having a tremendous impact on memory care residents. Plans are in place to expand the PARO therapy to other Legend Senior Living™ communities, including Regent Park in Wichita, KS later this month.
“We are certainly thrilled to bring this type of innovative memory care and dementia therapy to Kansas,” says Marla Lopeman, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Legend™ Senior Living. “The results witnessed in other Legend™ communities in Texas, Oklahoma and Florida have been extremely remarkable!”
The applications go well beyond the growing benefits for residents with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. PARO biofeedback devices have been studied and utilized in multiple therapeutic fields for behavioral treatments including addictions, mental health disorders, depression, antisocial behaviors and autism. This opens the field for amazing possibilities beyond memory care to also include residents in assisted living with personality or social dysfunctions.
